Aeration pipe design for free bubbling hydrodynamic optimization of flat sheet MBRs

An open-end aerator for free bubbling has been found previously hydrodynamic effect enhancement. This study is focused, through two modifications, on its further optimization aeration homogeneity in a commercial flat sheet membrane bioreactor (FSMBR). One relates to the aerators themselves, other central air supply pipe. The are tapered, or be more precise each one frustum i.e. that portion of cone which remains after upper part cut off by plane parallel base. A validated computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model constructed, features were predicted various implementations new design. extensive achieve very high degree uniformity between different full-scale FSMBR (160 sheets), optimal design featured frustum-designed length 180 mm with diameter decreasing from 18 9 at open end. Each had four top nozzles 4 mm, and 20 attached pipe 1760 mm. Based upon this design, was optimized, shear stress enhanced corresponding number effective channel coverage 25–75%.
